Oak Select is the latest addition to the famous Islay distillery of Laphroaig’s core range. Laphroaig is well known for its very peaty and smoky style of single malts, and the Select will sit alongside the classic 10 years old, Quarter Cask, Triple Wood and 18 years old expressions. The whiskies used to create the Select have been selected by Laphroaig’s Master Distiller John Campbell and come from a number of different American and European oak cask types. However, the main difference in this release is the use of new American oak casks in the final maturation.

CAOL ILA 12YO 700ML
Caol Ila is hidden in a quiet cove near Port Askaig. Many consider this locality to be the wildest and most picturesque of the island. Situated on Loch Nam Ban, the site is ideal thanks to the abundant supply of good water. Caol Ila (Gaelic for ‘the Sound of Islay’) was built in 1846 by Hector Henderson – a Glasgow businessman with a keen interest in distilling. Like Bunnahabhain and Bruichladdich, the development of Caol Ila created along with it, a community of its own. Without these distilleries, it is likely that there would have been little sustained human interference in these areas at all. Caol Ila is considered to be one of the lighter of the Islays. Medium-bodied with a rounded flavour. Pale in colour with a greenish tinge. This malt has a peaty nose, with distinct floral notes. It is described as tasting slightly of seaweed/iodine, lightly medicinal, smoky, salty, sweet with a dry peppery finish.

From Campbeltown’s Glen Scotia comes Campbeltown Harbour, a little nod to the maritime nature of the whisky. The lightly peated single malt has been matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks, so there’s a good dose of toffee among the more savoury seaside notes.
Nose: Toffee penny, iodine and flamed heather, with hints of smoke and sea spray.
Palate: Apple crumble and more florals, with a herbaceous undertone followed by brine and fudge.Finish: Dry smoke alongside a sweet, caramel-forward finish.

GLEN MORAY ELGIN CLASSIC 700ML
Light gold. At full strength, the aroma is fragrant and lightly drying with warming malty notes. The first impression is of butterscotch and shortbread with fresh herbal/grassy notes. Lemon curd and meringue are discovered in the background. Water, malt and spices combine to reveal oatmeal with a hint of freshly ground black pepper. Lemongrass, tea-tree oil and heather aromatics give the whisky a fragrance throughout. The mouthfeel is lightly spiced with a warming and gently mouth-watering effect. Malty toffee sweetness is present throughout with blackcurrants and a fragrant citrus lemongrass tang. Shortbread, fresh herbal notes (lemongrass) and the sweet spiciness of ginger marmalade.

Godawan Series 01 “Rich and Rounded” is an artisanal single malt Indian whisky crafted by Diageo India at the Alwar distillery in the extreme heat of the Rajasthan desert. Bottled at 46% ABV, it uses locally sourced six-row barley and a unique cask finish involving Pedro Ximénez sherry and Indian botanicals.

LAPHROAIG 10YO SINGLE MALT 700ML
Laphroaig 10 Year Old is an all-malt Scotch Whisky from the remote island of Islay in the Western Isles of Scotland. Laphroaig, pronounced “La-froyg”, is a Gaelic word meaning “the beautiful hollow by the broad bay.” In making Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour. Laphroaig is best savoured neat, or with a little cool water. Roll it around on your tongue. Release the pungent, earthy aroma of blue peat smoke, the sweet nuttiness of the barley, the delicate heathery perfume of Islay’s streams. It is as unique as the island itself. Full sparkling gold colour. Huge smoke, seaweedy, “medicinal”, with a hint of sweetness on the nose. Full bodied and the palate has a surprising sweetness, with hints of salt and layers of peatiness, topped off with a lingering finish.

OLD PULTENEY 12YO 700ML
Established in 1826 in Wick, Pulteney Distillery is the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland and at that time was only accessible by sea. The barley was brought in by sea, the whisky shipped out by boat and many of the distillery workers were also employed as fishermen. Sadly the herring fishing industry is no longer part of daily life in Wick but Pulteney Distillery continues to operate, distilling one of the finest Highland malts available. During 12 years of maturation, Old Pulteney has taken time to absorb the sea breeze creating a distinct flavour and unique product.
