Laphroaig is well known for its very peaty and smoky style of single malts, and the Select will sit alongside the classic 10 years old, Quarter Cask, Triple Wood and 18 years old expressions. The whiskies used to create the Select have been selected by Laphroaig’s Master Distiller John Campbell and come from a number of different American and European oak cask types. However, the main difference in this release is the use of new American oak casks in the final maturation.

You saveAged in a bourbon barrel. The tannins but with a Kentucky butt. Astonishingly and intriguingly, there is also a theme of every soft drink in the state other than Ale 8. Big, fat, and maxes out the chocolate and liquorice lead. The spices are lazy and instead make way for a buttery sub-plot. A very curious fade of sarsaparilla and root beer mix. The chocolate holds its ground. Well it certainly goes Kentucky, but for the finish not in the way you’d expect. That said, what a great entertainer this whisky is.

GLEN MORAY ELGIN CLASSIC 700ML
Light gold. At full strength, the aroma is fragrant and lightly drying with warming malty notes. The first impression is of butterscotch and shortbread with fresh herbal/grassy notes. Lemon curd and meringue are discovered in the background. Water, malt and spices combine to reveal oatmeal with a hint of freshly ground black pepper. Lemongrass, tea-tree oil and heather aromatics give the whisky a fragrance throughout. The mouthfeel is lightly spiced with a warming and gently mouth-watering effect. Malty toffee sweetness is present throughout with blackcurrants and a fragrant citrus lemongrass tang. Shortbread, fresh herbal notes (lemongrass) and the sweet spiciness of ginger marmalade.

Its foundation is Canadian whisky, and the taste otherwise resembles the candy with a similar name, Ferrara Candy Company’s “Atomic Fireball” candy. It is bottled at 33%. According to the official Fireball website, the product was developed in Canada in the mid-1980s, and for a long time was little known outside of Canada.

You saveVat 69 is a scotch blended whisky that is produced by William Sanderson & Son Limited of South Queensferry, West Lothian, Scotland. In 1882, William Sanderson prepared one hundred casks of blended whisky and hired a panel of experts to taste them. The batch from the cask (or “vat”) with number 69 was judged to be the best, and this provided the whisky’s brand name. The blend contains a complex mix of 40 different single malts and grain whiskies and the exact combination remains a closely guided secret. This has evolved over the years from Sanderson’s original blend that was built heavily around the two distilleries that he owned – Glen Garioch (pronounced glen-gear-ee) for its single malt and North British for its grain whisky content.

He later named his bourbon “Four Roses” as a symbol of his devout passion for the lovely belle.
