Sheridan’s is a liqueur first introduced in 1994. It is produced in Dublin by Tomas Sheridan & Sons. It is uniquely bottled, consisting of two separate sections, separated by glass, but fused together. One section is filled with a black liqueur, consisting of coffee and whiskey flavours, the other is filled with a white liqueur of milk white chocolate. When pouring into a lowball glass, the white liqueur should be gently floated on top of the black liqueur. 

Produced in the Piedmont region of northern Italy, its origins date back more than 300 years to the presence of early Christian monks living in the hills of the area. Their skills in fine food and drink would have included the art of distilling, especially the use of the wild hazelnuts and other local ingredients to create a liqueur on which Frangelico is based today. Its name is also part of the same local legend – an abbreviation of Fra. Angelico, a hermit monk believed to have inhabited the magnificent Piedmont hills during the 17th century. The Frangelico bottle is an immediate reminder of this distinctive history. Shaped like a monk’s habit, with a traditional rope belt around its waist, it is a guarantee of authenticity and quality that links the past right through to the present day. Taste Frangelico and the whole story falls into place. Wonderful toasted wild hazelnuts, found only in the Italian north, combined with cocoa, vanilla berries and a host of other natural extracts that make up its complex flavour. 

Bittersweet, orangey, herbal and mildly bitter with camomile, star anise, dark liquorice, chocolate and rootyness. 

Disaronno Originale unbeknownst to most is not actually amaretto which is why it has been removed from it’s label. It is amaretto flavored, with a characteristic bittersweet almond taste. Disaronno claims its “originale” amaretto’s “secret formula” is unchanged from the year 1525, and claims the Luini tale as its own particular history. Its production remains in Saronno, but the product is sold worldwide. The company describes its amaretto as an infusion of “apricot kernel oil” with “absolute alcohol, burnt sugar, and the pure essence of seventeen selected herbs and fruits”; the product does not contain any almonds or other nuts. The amber liqueur is presented in an oblong glass decanter designed by a craftsman from Murano. Disaronno can be served on the rocks, in shots, as part of a cocktail or with a mixer such as Coke or apple, mango or cherry juice.

The original Martini, and our first love. When Luigi Rossi blended local botanicals to craft this scarlet-hued vermouth, he created an indisputable icon. While the exact recipe remains a closely guarded secret, this sweet vermouth’s intensely herbal character is the result of blending carefully chosen wines with a complex selection of Italian herbs, including sage, savory and dittany, and bitter-sweet exotic woods.
