Founded in 1730 in the site of an old mill from the 17th century, Fundador Wineries are the oldest in Jerez. Pedro Domecq Loustau is the person behind the founding of Fundador, which is home to one of the largest wineries in the world.  Fundador Solera Reserva is crafted using Airén and Palomino grapes grown in the Jerez region. The brandy is then fermented in American oak barrels which were previously used for sherry. Fundador in Spanish means “founder”. This is an apt name for a brand who was the first to market itself as a Jerez brandy. The smooth, rich smell of brandy rises to meet the nose when you open a bottle of Fundador Solera Reserva. It smells a bit like fruitcake and dried apricots with a touch of spice and black pepper. In the mouth, it gives off the creamy taste of pudding, vanilla, oven-baked apples, and spices. After finishing, you are left with the taste of apricot and spices pleasantly lingering on the tongue. Try this brandy with cheese or chocolate as they will expertly play off of the spicy fruitiness.
